NSMC: Our first visit to Jordan

    John Bromley, Friday, July 20, 2012 - 14:35

Steve Menzies and I  are just back from our first visit to Jordan on our ECODIT/USAID contract which aims to develop a 6 month's social marketing training programme for NGO's working in the water, energy and solid waste sectors.  The purpose of the visit was to orientate ourselves to the needs of the NGO sector in Jordan and talk to the people we will be training in September.  The NSMC prides itself on making sure all of our training courses are tailor made to the needs of our clients.  We just don't have "off the shelf" training products t

Following our last successful Social Marketing Academy in London in March we have been inundated with requests for the dates of the next academy.  We are therefore happy to announce that the next NSMC Academy will take place on 27-28 September at the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) headquarters at Moor Hall in Berkshire.  The accredited CIM course will take place over two days and successful participants will be presented with a social marketing award.  If you are interested in attending you can find Read more...

    John Bromley, Friday, April 20, 2012 - 14:27

Steve Menzies and I are just back from a great trip to Vietnam where The Centre has been working with DFID and local partners on a project to increase the availability and use of condoms in men aged between 18-40 who have had sex with a female sex worker in the last three months.  We were working with a number of private sector firms in Vietnam who will be responsible for trying to get the new condom - VIP+ in as many Non Traditional Outlets (NTO's) as possible.  These NTO's - hotels, bars, massage parlours, local shops and supermarkets have been

  • “So, what is it that social marketers actually do?”

    James Hynes, Friday, February 17, 2012 - 01:00

I, like many of my fellow social marketers I’m sure, have often struggled with (and sometimes dread) the frequently asked question by friends and family - “What is social marketing?” closely followed by, “So, what is it that social marketers actually do?”

'Sing them something they bloody well know’ - quote from the film Zulu

I went to a fascinating presentation at a recent Chartered Institute of Marketing event  ‘ How social marketing changed attitudes and behaviour towards the army in Afghanistan and the Church in Wales. The event was part of the CIM’s social marketing interest group’s event’s calendar and focussed on marketing in war and religion.

The first cohort of students in our Social Marketing training programme in Jordan graduate

Following six months hard work, the participants on our first Intensive Social Marketing Training Programme graduated in front of the Head of USAID Mission in Amman, Beth Paige.  The students on the course who have all developed plans on their own social marketing projects will now apply to USAID for funds to implement these projects over the next 12 months.  The projects vary from a student led anti-litter campaign to a programme that will persuade investors to fit water saving devices in all of their new residential developments.  The next cohort will be
