National Social Marketing Centre

What we do

The NSMC has four main areas of work:

  • To provide strategic advice to policymakers
  • To provide training for those working in behaviour change
  • To develop tools and resources to improve the effectiveness of behaviour change policies and programmes
  • To research into the most effective ways of understanding, segmenting and influencing consumer behaviour for the better

Why social marketing?

Social marketing helps you plan behaviour change interventions and policies. Combining ideas from commercial marketing and the social sciences, social marketing is a proven tool for influencing behaviour in a sustainable and cost-effective way.

It helps you to decide:

  • Which people to work with
  • What behaviour to influence
  • How to go about it
  • How to measure it

Why The NSMC?

Our goal is always to help you achieve yours; lasting, positive behavioural change. From start to finish, our world-leading expertise will guide your strategy and engage your stakeholders to produce powerful and sustainable results. Creative and cost-effective, we can help you think smartly about your audience and design programmes that really meet their needs.

As social marketing procurement guidance mentors for the NHS, we have in-depth experience of assessing the effectiveness of behaviour change programmes and providers. We can help you prepare clear, focused briefs to ensure you match the right agency to the right project.
